Quality Content For Your Website
The life of an internet marketer revolves around one thing: content. You need articles for your blog, more great content for your newsletter or ezine, and even more quality articles if you plan to do article marketing or guest blogging to get free advertising for your website. So, before you throw in the towel completely, let me share a few ideas with you that may help you to actually have time away from your computer.
When looking for articles, you have several options. I personally recommend that you use several of these suggestions to add a variety of content to your websites.
I’ll start with a few favorites …
Grab some Free Reprint Articles at the Directories
Article directories such as EzineArticles.com, LadyPens.com and ArticleBase.com are packed with quality articles that you can reprint on your site. The only requirements are that you do not edit the article in any way and that you include the author’s resource box (or bio) at the end, including the link or two that the author has included to his/her website.
It’s a win-win situation. The author gets free advertising. You, the publisher, get free content.
There are three negatives to using this type of article.
- First is the issue of duplicate content. You’re sharing the same exact articles as everyone else that uses that directory. This is not a big deal if you’re using the article in your ezine, since duplicate content is only an issue with the search engines. It’s also not a huge issue for your blog or website, as long as you write an introduction to the article, and preferably a wrap-up statement or recommendation at the end.
- Second is the very difficult issue of finding quality content. Gone are the days of grabbing any old free reprint article. You want Expert Content only – and many of the article directories have “bleck” articles.
- Third is the issue of posting those darn links in the author resource box. You’re basically advertising for someone else for free. Ouch.
Use Extra-Special Free Reprint Articles
Often, ebook owners and other marketers with affiliate programs offer articles with a twist. You get to replace the link(s) in the author resource box with your affiliate link for that program.
Here’s a resource where many of the articles meet that criteria: http://freeaffiliatearticles.com/wp/
Another option … if your favorite experts regularly offer reprint articles, ask if you can replace the links with your own. This way, the expert still gets free advertising. And, you, the publisher, still get great content. But, you can also benefit by earning affiliate commissions as well.
This model definitely adds an increased level of appeal compared to traditional reprint articles. Wouldn’t you agree?
Write the Articles Yourself
You can choose to write some of your web content yourself. I highly recommend that you do write much of your own content, at least on the sites where you’re trying to establish yourself as an authority.
However, there are options below that will enable you to post quality content to your website without having to write all of it yourself. (Some you can just edit and use.) The difference in the options below is that you become the expert, rather than endorsing someone else as the expert.
Hire a Quality Ghostwriter or Copywriter
A ghostwriter is a freelancer who writes for you (usually articles or reports), but you take the credit.
A copywriter specializes in writing copy that sells, and you usually take the credit.
There are many sites on the web where you can find writers. Start by asking around, or go to sites like elance.com (a job posting site) or Shelancers.com (a directory of freelancers) to look around. Having a ghostwriter on hand can keep your blog fresh and active.
A Favorite Shortcut: Stock up on PLR Articles
PLR articles stands for Private Label Rights articles. PLR articles are usually written by a ghostwriter and sold to several website owners. This means that you (and a limited number of other bloggers) can edit the articles and publish them without being required to link back to anyone or give anyone credit for writing them. You become the expert when using PLR articles.
Customize the articles, tweak them for your market, insert examples or photos or case studies and publish them on your website — or just use them as they are. Either way, you gain a lot of flexibility when working with PLR. Not only that but they are very affordable.
How do you determine what’s a good PLR service?
Simple. Find a PLR site that’s been around for awhile and offers professionally-written and edited content that’s sold in limited quantities. That will ensure that you’re not getting recycled PLR, but are getting your hands on top-quality content.
My recommendation for quality PLR, sold in very limited quantities (and yes this is an affiliate link):
EasyPLR has been offering the best niche PLR article packs on the web since 2006.
- Great reputation. Thousands of happy, repeat customers over the years.
- Great quality. The content is written by Professional Writers on staff and Edited by a Separate staff member.
- Limited Availability. You’re not sharing your articles with thousands of other people.
- Run by a Respected Internet Marketer. Nicole Dean owns EasyPLR.com and is oftentimes called the marketer with integrity, and runs her business by her gut and her ethics, not strictly by her pocketbook.
- Excellent customer support. Need any help? They’re there for you.
I’m a customer at EasyPLR and I highly recommend their content.

Organizing Your PLR Content
As we discussed in our recent series on product development, one of the avenues you should consider pursuing is public label rights (PLR). This form of content can be used in multiple ways. You can use it on your blog, on your website, as an autoreponder series, as a free report, and yes, as a full product.
If you’re like most Internet marketers, you’ve purchased your fair share of PLR and have it sitting on your hard drive, taking up tons of space. You know it’s valuable. You know you need to use it. But you just haven’t determined yet what content have, which articles you’ve already used, and which content is still available. That’s the way it is with most of us. It’s easy to become disorganized with your PLR content.
Well, here’s a suggestion on how you can organize your PLR content so that you know what’s been used and what’s still waiting to be used.
First, organize all your PLR by either niche or website. If you own more than one website it might be best to use the later organization method. Move all the articles that you want to use on that website into the site’s folder. Within your website folder create three folders. The first labeled “Raw PLR.” The second labeled “Rewritten – Ready For Posting.” And the third, “Used.”
By creating three separate folders you can move the articles to the “Rewritten” folder once you’ve reworked them and they are ready to be added to your blog or website. After you have added them to your site, simply cut and paste the article to the “Used” folder.
And don’t forget there are tons of ways to use the same article over and over. If you’d like to discover all the ways you use and re-purpose your private label rights content, let me suggest Easy PLR. And yes, this is an affiliate link to a product that I believe will benefit you.

Product Creation – Part Twelve – Outsourcing
If you don’t have the time or the energy or the desire to create your product, but you do have some extra money, then outsourcing may be the perfect path for you.
In the simplest language possible, outsourcing is when a company delegates the completion of certain tasks to an outside firm or an individual not directly employed by the company. This individual may be an independent contractor or an employee of another company who is subcontracted to complete these tasks. In exchange for the individual’s services, he or his company receives monetary compensation and/or other considerations as negotiated.
Benefits of Outsourcing
Outsourcing is popular because there are a great many benefits. Some of these benefits include:
- Reduced labor costs
- Increased workforce
- Greater flexibility
That’s all fine and dandy. However, the primary reasons you want to outsource is because you don’t want to do the work yourself, to save time, and to save money.
Although there a number of scenarios where outsourcing is a viable option there are other scenarios when outsourcing may not be the best idea. This include: when outsourcing is too expensive, when it cause a loss of control, when it will take too long, and when the work is poor. In these situations it’s best to keep the work in-house.
Protecting Yourself
Before you outsource anything, you want to do a good job of screening potential candidates. Here are some suggestions for you to consider:
1. Verify Candidate Qualifications - screen all applicants carefully before deciding to outsource the work. Verify all the information on the resume before awarding the project. This may entail contacting previous employers as well as references to determine the capabilities and work ethic of the individual. Ask to see samples of their work.
2. Thoroughly Outline Project Requirements - be very clear in stating the project requirements. You’ll want to include all the topics to be covered, the order they’re to be covered, the deadline, the form of the final product, and anything else you want to include. Preparing a contract stating the exact project details and compensation to be provided is a good idea as well.
3. Schedule Periodic Milestone Meetings - schedule regular progress meetings to ensure the project doesn’t fall too far behind schedule during any one phase of the project. These meetings can be helpful to both you and the independent contractor. You’ll benefit because you’ll remain in control of the project and can intervene if the independent contractor is heading in the wrong direction. The independent contractor benefits because they can prevent him from being caught by surprise at the conclusion of the project if he misinterpreted the project requirements.
We gave you a list of possible resources for outsourcing earlier in this series. If you need additional resources, just run an online search for “outsource services.”
The next session will be our final session in this series. We’ll offer you a list of possible products.

Product Creation – Part Eleven – Pricing
We’ve approached product creation primarily through the ebook form. However, we’ve also covered a number of other forms you might consider. Everything from videos to a membership site to home study course.
In this session, we’re going to address how to price your product.
The first consideration is how you intend to use your product. Is it going to be an entry level product? Is it going to be an upsell? Is it going to be a top-end product?
The quickest, easiest method for determining price is to look at comparable products and their selling price. Study sales pages, competing products, and forum reviews to help you in this process. If the product appears to be close to what you’re providing and it’s selling for $47, then you can feel comfortable in pricing your product for $47.
However, you might want to offer more for less. It’s always advisable to offer a better product. This can include adding top-notch bonuses with your product. And it can be very beneficial to offer a better price as long as you aren’t devaluing the information within your niche.
So you might want to provide a better value for $39.97.
As a side note: I’m not sure how true it is that your price should end with a 7. This has long been the accepted practice. However, I don’t believe there’s any evidence that ending in 9 will result in fewer sales.
The last point on pricing is this: perceived value is extremely important. The same product delivered in a series of videos instead of as an ebook will generally be perceived as to having a greater value, which means you can charge more for it. A membership site, on the other hand, may have a higher perceived value, but people have to really be convinced of the benefits of paying a high monthly fee. I believe the average membership lasts somewhere around four to five months.
You may want to think about your funnel (which is the process of moving new customers through a series of ever more expensive products). An example: entry product ($27), upsell (another $47), expanded product ($97), membership site ($47/month), home study course ($297), personal coaching (depends on what you offer and how you’re perceived as an expert).
Generally, price points are: $7, $17, $27, $47, $67, $97, $197, $297, $497 and upwards.
Next time out, for those who can’t stand the idea of creating their own product, we’ll talk about outsourcing.

Product Creation – Part Ten
Okay, now we’re getting to a point where we’re ready to start fleshing out our product idea.
There are two approaches to doing this. The first is the tradition approach … you begin to outline and build a table of contents. The second is you write your salesletter first and build around that.
Let’s take a look at the traditional approach first.
You’ve got everything down on paper now. You can continue on paper or move to the computer, whichever is most comfortable for you. All you want to do in this step is organize what you’ve written down. You might have specific categories such as table of contents, salesletter, packaging ideas, sales funnel ideas, etc. Simply move appropriate items into their appropriate categories, then organize each category.
Don’t over think.
Don’t second guess.
Just organize what you have.
The table of contents essentially provides an outline for your ebook. So make a list, using what you’ve already written down and anything else that comes up, of all the sections and put them in order. If you aren’t sure you have everything that should be included, spend some time on Amazon.com looking at the table of contents of similar books. Or take a look at the salesletters of similar products in your niche, especially the bullet points, to help you flesh things out.
You don’t want to copy what you find, but you do want to model it.
Remember: you want your product to be better than what’s already on the market.
The second approach is to write the salesletter first. In this approach, you write the complete salesletter with all the selling points, bullet points, benefits and features, and use that information to form your table of contents. This works wonderfully well for some people, because they simply let their imaginations go and include everything they imagine their potential customer would want in the product.
Next, use your table of contents to start writing.
Take on one section at a time. You don’t have to do them in order. Work on any section that excites you.
You don’t even have to write the words. Try recording them if that’s easier for you.
The important thing at this stage is to be relaxed and be yourself. Don’t write or speak formally. Make it as if you’re leaning on the back fence, talking to your neighbor about the topic. The information is what your readers are after, the casual way you deliver it is what will keep them reading.
Next time we’ll talk about pricing.
In the meantime, you can get a head start this way:

Product Creation – Part Nine
I want to start off this session with a caveat … everyone works differently. So if you have your own way of fleshing out ideas, don’t try to force yourself to use this approach. Simply go with what’s comfortable for you.
Okay, here’s the process I tend to use. I always keep a notepad and pen handy – you can use a tape recorder as well – and whenever I get an idea I write it down. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be a complete idea. All it has to be is enough of an idea to get me intrigued with the possibilities.
Next, I transfer the idea to a sheet of paper. You can use whatever size, whatever color, lined or unlined paper that suits your tastes. I tend to use legal-sized yellow college lined paper. I write out the idea in the middle of the page and just start writing down every thought that comes to mind. It doesn’t matter where I put my thoughts on the page. I can connect them with lines and arrows, I can isolate them in circles … it doesn’t matter.
At this stage I’m not evaluating the quality. I’m just getting everything I can think of on paper. I don’t worry about logic, linear thinking, or organization. It’s simply a brainstorming session. No judgements are made at this stage.
You might start writing out a table of contents, then come up with product titles, or some salesletter bulletpoints. Just let yourself go with the flow. And run with it as long as you can.
If you need more paper, use more paper.
When you eventually run down, put it aside and let your thoughts simmer for a few days. When new ideas come rising up, add them to your paper.
Most important of all during this process is this: no pre-judging. Every idea is worth writing down.
Next time we’ll talk about fleshing things out.
